Since I was about 16 years old and heard about Jack Lalanne European health spas. I have been going to one gym or another ever since and I turn 60 in 2011. For some reason I knew even at 16 that we humans could not live a long quality life without some level of consistent exercise.
We are witnessing a sad reality in the U.S. and in a lot of the world. People are not doing the daily physical labor and using their legs to get around anymore like they used to. They are also not doing any kind of regular exercise program either. More of the wrong foods and no exercise and it's a recipe for health problems.
Our bodies were designed to be used. We have to keep out arms and legs moving to keep our hearts and lungs strong and in good working order. People a couple of generations ago were actually much more physically fit than the population is today.
Not because they worked out and did a lot of exercising but more because they did more physical work, they walked, rode bicycles and everyone did not have a car to ride around in.
Part of the reason for the mass obesity epidemic is so little or no exercise. People only walk from their house out to the garage, get in their cars, drive to work and walk a short distance to their chairs and that's the extent of their exercise for the day. Then they eat huge meals of fattening unhealthy food. This is a straight path to a shorter lower quality of life.
Even people who are conscious about eating well and eating healthy food choices still will not do as well as they could without regular exercise.
Exercise can come in many forms, it can vary widely according to peoples abilities and tastes. What I am talking about is just some kind of exercise on a regular basis.
This could even be just a half hour walk each day. Or an hours of yoga or Tai Chi. You don't have to be an exercise freak to get enough exercise to be healthy. Just get enough consistently and you will enjoy a much better quality of life both mentally and
