Do healthcare providers have to disclose that I have AIDS?

If you are diagnosed as HIV-positive, the clinic or testing place must report this information to the state health department. Your state health department cannot reveal this information to anyone other than the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This prohibition includes revealing your status to insurance companies. CDC uses this information to track the HIV/AIDS epidemic in your area and nationally.
